3 Mind Shifts To Become “The Expert”
And advice so you can DO, BE, CREATE it to impact your world
When you succeed as a known professional and get stronger emotionally, you embrace self-control, find new opportunities and lean into the future. You now want staying power to maximize the moment. You adapt to change and become “The Expert”.
In the spring of 1992, I had just achieved Rookie of the Year as a straight commission Real Estate salesperson. I was single, no kids, on the heels of a second divorce, and had no reserve funds. So, I decided to pick up and move to a new town. I thought, “New York, New York – If I can make it here, I can make it anywhere.”
Well, it wasn’t long after getting settled in my new town, with a new office and new friends, I realized, not only had I moved, I had dived into shark invested waters. Mother Jesus, what was I thinking?! It was a Mind Shift ah-ha moment on steroids.
“We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are.” – Talmud
I discovered my lack of fear came from my willingness to not count on anyone, but, myself. I reflected on a quote I had seen, it said “If it’s meant to be, It’s up to me!” Yep! Me, myself and I. Survival meant becoming an expert in my field, on my own, in my marketplace, with my product.
I knew I needed to create a plan, get mentors, find a proven strategy to model, study and take massive f-ing action. Failure was not an option! I had to condition myself to attract clients – and keep them! – go the distance in the selling process and become a closer. How did I do it? I dove into the Self-Help market, with cement weights around my ankles, to become a better me. And through that process, I became a better me which resulted in my becoming a consistent Top Producer. I got on top of my game and stayed there. And . . . I got lucky.
My Secret . . . The 3 Steps to Becoming “The Expert”
Step 1 – Personal & Professional Mastery
Step 2 – Practice Deliberately & Diligently
Step 3 – Passion Prevails Achievement
Experts are self-renewing people. Studies, of human behavior, show these people are value driven, connected to the world, and need solitude and quite time. Most are always in training, focused on the future, while being creative and playful. Simply put, self-renewing people know what they prefer. Something is always at stake because something always matters. These are the people who are wanted by the world. They are “The Experts”.
My business situations have always come down to people situations. Clients often comment to me, “You sure know a lot about real estate.” “Yes,” I reply, “however, I know more about human behavior.” And, this I know for sure; God gave us two ears and one mouth for a reason. We also have two eyes. Talk less, listen more, and observe sharply. Be discreet and impartial when using what you have learned. And remember my definition of LUCK, “When preparedness and opportunity meet, one becomes lucky!”
