Today's Mental Toughness

  • "Priorities - knowing how to choose and make good choices, is the first step to mental toughness. It is the opportunity to focus on your strengths". ~ Ida

Now Is The Time To Talk About Mental Conditioning In Golf

Tiger Woods dominates golf by a direct result of how he uses his mind. If you are a “pro", an “expert” at anything, you know it’s because of how you use your mind and manage your state.

They all say it, “Tiger’s mind separates him from the field.” People unanimously talk about the mental toughness of Tiger, his focus and his resolve. He is committed to execute every shot – every time.

My background in the field of personal development and peak performance had been centered working with people in all areas of life. I have discovered that its how a person uses their mind, feeds their brain, policing what gets in and what stays out, is how they improve any area of their life. Especially
in the game of golf. To improve your golf game, to improve your life in any area, to unlock the secret to success and have more wins, means you know how to unlock your mind.

If you are competitive, it is your mind at work. It is your mind, your focus and your nature to be competitive. It is also your mind that determines how well you will do in competitive situations and how you respond under pressure. Your mind will direct your focus to execute and will give you the nature to be aware, relaxed and balanced. It is your mind that allows you to tee up the ball correctly, commit to the shot and select the right club (or not).

Ask any great golfer what is the key to shooting lower scores and winning tournaments they commonly say it is how they use their mind and what they were thinking about and how they were thinking. They know thoughts become things. They know they can’t afford the luxury of a negative thought.

Do you want to have unstoppable confidence in your game? Your life? Do you want to know how to think under pressure and effortlessly get back in state, back in your routine – and be committed to every shot?

If yes, you have to commit to learning how to think like a champion. You have to commit to learning mental toughness by mental conditioning yourself to think clear and play smart. The first step to greatness in all that you want to do, be or create is in your mind. Understanding how to think, how to manage your state - really means knowing how to be mentally tough, mentally sharp.

Mental toughness, mental focus – clear thinking means you have trained your mind to win. You have mental techniques that have you playing your personal best and being excellent, being the best you can be, even under pressure. After all, golf doesn’t require a lot of words or thinking. It requires attention, awareness and being present. Golf is a fine motor sport. So being negative or being around mocking, sarcasm or challenging rhetoric, means your having a negative experience in your brain and in your nervous system. Mental toughness habits depend on two factors: discipline & character, and both lead to growth and momentum in your performance.

Growth to a golfer means growth as a person.

Growth, especially golf growth, is about mental conditioning and awareness. Take inventory of what you need for conditioning
now in the off-season. Because champions know there is no off-season.

Wow, I was just thinking

Wow, I was just thinking about this as I plan out my off season. Thanks the outstanding insight Ida and for a great blog.

You really speak to golfers

You really speak to golfers Ida and understand no one golfer can fit a certain mold. Everyone needs to be themselves and bring all their uniqueness, style, special talents and personality to the game. Meeting or exceeding goals on the course takes the ability to maintain focus is so true. I really like the fact you made me think that it is only a players mind that will get them momentum on or off the course. Thanks for a great blog - I'll pass this on to my students.
